PHP development with Laravel- Comparing the pros and cons

PHP Framework

The development of PHP framework especially aims to cut the cost of the web developments and offer solutions to the clients. PHP powers over 80% of the websites we use, like facebook, WordPress, etc. PHP in the past was very distressing for the web developers and app developers to produce quality apps or websites. It was because of the poor syntax that led them to select other programming languages. Now it is again regaining the popularity as it made major changes in its framework, like Laravel.

What is Laravel?

Laravel is an open source PHP framework which makes web development tasks extremely easy. It is designed by Taylor Otwell. It follows the MVC (Model- View- Controller) pattern. Whether its authentication and development of all websites or a large enterprise application, Laravel has taken the pain away and made it user-friendly. Although it’s a fairly new framework in the market it has gained the popularity very fast. It is one of the most popular PHP framework around.

Pros of Laravel

One of the many reasons why Laravel is the best in the business is that it uses a blade template engine which speeds up the process of compiling the task. It introduced uniformity in the coding process. It allows code reuse thus making the process of web development much simpler. This is possible because of its budged modularity. It saves a lot of time invested in web development be it website or app compared to other PHP frameworks like CakePHP, Codeigniter, Symfony, etc.

ORM:-

It features the ORM (Object Relational Mapping) which allows web developers to create database relations in a simple manner without any complications. Thus, it helps to organize the app database. Laravel makes use of the libraries and models easier since the libraries are supported with auto complete feature.

Laravel has a very thorough documentation set. It is very developer- friendly. It gives very detailed information about coding styles and methods. This is added with a feature of reverse routing.

Laravel offers the auto loading facility and restrains the developers from making efforts for inclusion paths and manual maintenance. Its pre-built authentication system makes it really easy to navigate and understand the PHP framework.  It gives the freedom to generate new tools using the IOC container.

Artisan CLI comprises advanced tools to do tasks and migration. Migrations include seeding databases and migrating databases. The framework’s cache is the best and also it handles event queuing very well.

Another benefit of Laravel is that it prevents websites and apps from becoming outdated. As it is always in high demand, the market will always have plenty to offer and it will be updated from time to time to give the users the best experience.

The encryption system of Laravel is the most secure in the market and thus helps in the conduction of secured communication.

Cons of Laravel

Keeping the pros aside now, we look at the downsides of Laravel. One of the much worrisome features is that it doesn’t support payments feature. Instead, it allows libraries to integrate the payment method. Thus, it makes the process complicated as you have to take help of the third parties.

Another downside of it is that it fails to provide quality mobile applications due to the servers are traditionally designed to load traditional websites. Full page reloads become a problem and it can make the app look a bit heavy.

Laravel makes some of the upgrades problematic which happen with other PHP frameworks too. Every developer should take precautions before upgrading their website or the application.

Methods used in the reverse routing are complex and thus new developers face a problem. Extending codes and methods and classes also become a struggle.

Laravel is slow compared to other frameworks. Plus since its introduction, every web developer has a new platform and new ways to deal with. It can become a task and might reduce its popularity.

Conclusion

We can compare by looking at the pros and cons that the upsides obviously outweighs the downsides. Laravel is a popular framework for a reason and it’s a possibility that it remains in the market for a really long time. Still, it doesn’t guarantee the success of the websites or applications. It all comes down to the individual preferences and choices of the web developers. It is an extremely classy PHP framework with all the modernization needed. The developers just have to be mindful of the disadvantages.
